What happens when your survival strategy is “don’t die,” but everyone around you seems hell-bent on testing it?

This week, we’re diving into chapters 5–9 of Fourth Wing, where the tension is as thick as a dragon’s scales. Violet’s training ramps up as she learns to navigate not just the parapet but the dangerous dynamics of the Rider's Quadrant. Jack’s murder spree has everyone on edge, Dane’s got some serious stage-five clinger energy, and let’s just say Xaden’s midnight warnings are anything but friendly. Plus, we’re breaking down Violet’s reaction to the griffin attack briefing and wondering if this whole “don’t die” strategy is enough. It’s drama, danger, and one very intense power struggle—let’s get into it!

(Transcribed by TurboScribe.ai. Go Unlimited to remove this message.) Welcome to Pillow Talk and Paperbacks. The podcast where a husband and wife tackle romanticy books when dramatic chapter out of time. I'm Mary Angelica and I'm all in for an epic love story. And I'm Christian here to question every live choice these characters make. We're here for the plot twist, the chaos, and a whole lot of laughs. All after wrangling our three boys to bed and finally claiming the couch for ourselves. So get cozy, grab a book, and let me remind you why none of this makes any sense. Welcome back. So today we're talking about chapters five through nine. So we're talking about what is that five chapters? Five, six, seven, eight, nine, five chapters of fourth wing. So my husband has been a pretty diligent reader. So tell me how the journey has been through these last five chapters. Hey, so I would actually say that I enjoyed four out of the five chapters. That's pretty good. That's a passing grade. That's not bad. And I would have kept reading, but I know I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Four now, four now. So would you say you were, if you hadn't had to stop, you would have, like you couldn't put it down? My goodness, it took, what, nine chapters to convert you? I plead the fifth. Okay, so tell me about, tell me about actually, before we get into the actual chapter, I'm curious about reading this book. Because obviously, you know, the last time it was your very first time, you were doing it because we were like, okay, we're going to do this podcast. Let me read these four chapters. But like, genuinely, you know, like you went the other day out and you took the book with you because you were going to go read. So tell me a little bit about that. And how do you feel? I mean, this genre is obviously very different from what I'm used to. I like the fact that it still doesn't feel too far-fetched aside from dragons. Right. You know, I feel like a lot of the conversations and things that happen, could happen in any battlefield, any war zone, except no dragons, right? Maybe drones instead of dragons, right? So it hasn't been too crazy. Now, I know there are some romantic novels out there that are just like way out there. Right. We're not there yet. We're starting, we're starting pretty good. I mean, we're starting the way I did, right? This was my first introduction to this genre and this world. And so I think this is a pretty safe way to start. I agree. It's all pretty relatable other than the fact that there's dragons and, you know, some magic and stuff. But I think I'll enjoy this book. Yeah, I'll probably enjoy the whole series. I can't say the same for every novel or book that you're going to recommend. One hundred percent. And listen, at some point, we're going to get to books I haven't read. So we'll just both be figuring it out as we go. Okay. So chapter five, we, for the first time, go to battle brief class with Violet. So I'm curious before we get into actual what happens to Violet, what do you think of battle brief as a class? You know what? I think I would, it would be one of my favorite subjects if I was in school right now. I'm someone likes the news. I like being up to date, I like finding out, you know, what's happening in, you know, world events. So when this chapter started, I actually had to put it down halfway through because the kids needed help with something. But I was eager to get back to it and finish it. I was like, I want to keep going. I don't want to stop right now and not halfway through. And it didn't disappoint. You know, we learned quite a bit about what's currently happening in one of the zones. I forget exactly the term they use. But they are faltering. Yeah. And so the other thing to note is that there's two teachers during this class, right? So we have Professor Devira, and we also have Professor Markham. And Markham is coming from the scribes world. So technically Violet was going to be his star pupil, like in his, you know, when she was going to go into the scribe quadrant. So it's a very, for someone to kind of get a bit of like a blurring of both worlds, where we are getting reports from what the scribes have accounted of these different battles that have happened. And I think the cool thing about this one is that they're current events, right? This isn't history class. This is like a battle that happened yesterday or it happened recently. So there's definitely, you know, some things here when you kind of get into the world of mixing the people that are at war and the people that write about the wars. Yeah. Let's talk about what's happening in the Eastern wing, right? Sure. So there was an attack that happened, you know, they had about an hour to get to assist that wing. And Violet didn't want to speak up at first. She want, you know, she doesn't want. Why, what do you think? Well, she wants to keep a low profile, as we know, you know, she doesn't necessarily show off all her skills right away. And I think she knows just to target on her back. So she just wants to, you know, Lylo. Lylo, exactly. And so she was feeding Rhee some questions that she could bring up. But she was quickly called out by the teachers and they're like, hold on. Just you ask your questions. Exactly. Right. And there was a really cool part where, you know, she was asking a question or she was mentioning something and then Jack was kind of laughing and some people were laughing. And they were like, hold on a second. No, she's right about, you know, her thought here, this is going somewhere. So I thought that was really cool that, you know, it's probably one of probably the second time that Jack is sort of like, holy shit, there's more to this girl than, you know, just being Sorengill's daughter, right? Right. You know, first the whole thing in the parapet where she grabbed her, her knife, her blade, and she put it up against them. And now she's like, oh, she's also smart, you know. And then in this, in this chapter, we also talk about griffins. So we are hearing that there is, you know, some griffon writers that came to attack, right? So they're the ones that were channeling powers from their, from their writers. So we have writers and we have griffins, right? And so what is it here? Dragons aren't the only animals capable of channeling powers to their writers. Don't don't don't. Griffins from pyramule also share the ability, but dragons are the only ones capable of powering the wards that make all other magic, but their own impossible within our borders. So like we're understanding wards a little bit more. So we, we last talked about them and they're kind of like a shield, right? Like a protection area, but it's, a ward allows only their magic. Therefore, no other magic beings can actually be or perform magic in that area. So it's protected only dragons can perform. And so once they're faltering, it allows for griffon writers to come in and, you know, wield their magic. I'm excited to see some like intense dragon griffon fights. And I feel like it'll be like 10 griffins versus one dragon probably. Because I feel like griffins would be way smaller with like half lion, half eagle type thing. So, and by the way, griffins, I didn't know they were so popular in just like anything fantasy related. I feel like has griffins. You know, at first, honestly, I thought it was just like a Harry Potter thing. Okay. But I've seen them in more than just Harry Potter. Yeah. Right. So I was kind of, that was kind of neat. Now, I, I mean, I don't want the griffins to die, but I am definitely eager to see some big time. Get to know them a little bit better. Yeah. That's fair. I mean, it's another creature, right? So now we talk about dragons. Others also griffins. And so in this class, you know, you were saying, yeah, she's pretty smart. She technically now gets to, you know, bring out her scribe training, right? So she gets to utilize that. Do you feel like that's something that's going to help her throughout the series? Or do you feel like it's something that's always going to kind of pull her back a little bit? No, no, it'll, it'll definitely help her. You know, she, she's a really smart, obviously cadet. And actually they call it, they say it out, you know, in the book. They say she's a lot smarter than a lot of the people. I kind of love a lot smarter. Yeah. Not a lot of the people that are there. And I think we've seen at this point that she's getting far because she's able to think ahead or plan ahead. So she's strategic. Yeah, very strategic. And I think this is all because she spent so much time in the library when she was prepping to be a scribe. Yeah. And I think it's cool how they organize battle brief, right? Like hook and share first, who could share second. Do you have any thoughts on that? Because obviously only the first years can share what their thoughts are on the battle at the very beginning of the class. Yeah, I think it's a good way for them to learn, right? And kind of take a stabbing guess at what's happening. Because if the third years jumped right in, I don't think there'll be a chance for the first years to add and add anything, contribute anything of worth to the class, right? And I think it also gives the third years a chance to kind of analyze and say, okay, well, which first years are going to be, you know, someone to look out for? Exactly. That it's not going to hold us back, right? And we do get like the last sentence here, which, you know, I think as soon as you read it, you're like, well, this is going to happen. So, you know, something they said that really only in the later years, you get sent out to missions and things like that. But it said something in her tone tells me that it's not just third years who might be called into service this year. And a chilling, a chill settles in my bones. Yeah, and like right away, like I do. And I feel like this book does it a lot where they mentioned something. Oh, something will never happen. And it's like, oh, it's going to happen, right? So I actually don't kind of appreciate all these spoilers throughout, to be honest, because then I'm just like waiting for the page where all of a sudden all the kids are sent to service, even though they haven't graduated, right? Or like that kid who died a few chapters ago, where he was so eager to get on the parapet when they get married on all these life plans. It's like, no. I did not see that coming, though. Oh, God, it's so obvious. I really did it. I was like, oh, he's so sweet. And he had like the ring around his like necklace or something. Oh, I was. Do you really think there are these whole beautiful back story, all his life plans to then let him actually live through that first, you know, first couple of chapters? So, you know, maybe some people catch on to certain things. Yeah. Others don't. But okay, so essentially, you know, we're talking about this class and everyone's like, especially some of her other cadets, right? She's made friends with Reeve, but they're still building relationships, right? With the other cadets, like they don't really know them all too well. And they're talking around classes that they're good at or not. And Riddick is also there. He becomes a little bit more of a character in this chapter. We get to talk to him a little bit more. He's kind of funny. And they come up with this way of supporting each other. So, thoughts on that? Yeah, well, once again, super smart, I think, on both Reeve's part and Violet's part. You know, let's help each other out. Let's use each other's strengths. Yeah. So we can survive through this and get through it together. So, it reminds me of like when I was in high school, I would cheat a lot of people that were way smarter than me. Oh my gosh. But did you give them anything in return? Because then it's not the same thing. My friendship. This is not the same thing. My friendship in return. Yeah, this is not what we're talking about. So, we're talking about supporting each other. See their trading skills. I was there for them when they needed to vent and they needed a shoulder to cry on. So, we now we're getting to like working on the mat. So, we've gone to battle brief. And now we're like, okay, let's go to this mat class. What is it really called? It's, I don't know, it's far out. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so, they're coming in here. And the first thing that happens is like, essentially Jack. Our favorite character comes in and kills another. Right. Another cadet, right? And this is becoming a theme. There's a pattern, you know. Like, just pretty twisted. He kills every chance he gets. And like, it just, part of me, it's like, okay, keep killing. Because then I'm going to enjoy your death that much more. Like, whoever takes care of you at the end, I really hope they enjoy it. You don't think they have to keep them? Because they have to keep like a, you know, kind of a... No, there's a lot of other stuff going on that I feel like will take over. And he's not going to be the bad guy right now. They're going to go into war. These kids are going to go into war very soon. And Jack is the least of war is here, right? That's fair. So, you know, he's definitely threatened her life. And he's over here killing people like it's nobody's business. And everyone kind of knows it, but it's just like, you can't really do anything about it. It's allowed. Which is also twisted. Like, in my mind, right, I think about, if you're really thinking about trying to graduate the best, the most amount of people for a war, wouldn't you want more people out there rather than killing them all off? I think the way they see it is like, either they die here or they die the day they step foot outside in the dragon, right? So it's just like, let's just get over with now. But there's also potential in people that just got cut like anyway. It's pretty cutthroat, right? As we know. And then we also see Rhee going into her own match, right? And we get to see like how really strong and she can be as well. So that was pretty neat. And then there gets a point where Violet has to do her match. And she's paired up with, I don't know, what's... Imogen. Imogen. These names, I'm telling you. So like pink-haired second year with the rebellion relic. I can picture her in my head. I can see that I have a person she would be, right? Okay. So, Imogen. So, Imogen actually turns out to be pretty strong and she doesn't give a damn what she does. She has a March rebellion. So, you know, if we're talking about feeling like there are some deaths to be paid, you know, she has that. Pretty close her chest. She said that your mother murdered my family. Right, exactly. And actually this brings me back to the beginning of chapter five. You know, they have that little section on the top where they, you know, they give you a bit of background knowledge. And it's the piece where General Sorengell makes it very clear that she doesn't support Melgren's plan to have the kids in the rebellion watch their plans be murdered. Right. So, we get a glimpse that she didn't want that to happen. No, no, she didn't. I mean, I'm glad she didn't. Like, that's, that's some atrocity. Right. So, one of these feelings. But we've only seen her as like this tough, you know, don't care about you violate type of person. So, it's an interesting show of, you know. Yeah, I mean, it tells you that she's got some morals. You know, she's not completely a loss cause. I'm not saying I like her. I still don't. Yeah, but it did something for you. Yeah, it did. It did. Okay, that's fair. And, you know, obviously they don't know that. And so, the pressure is still there as in like, no, your mother was responsible for this. And so, this is what's happening. So, you know, Imogen is literally trying to kill her. So, really trying to kill Violet. And at this point, she actually does go in for a killing shot. But it's actually Violet's armor slash Mira's support with that armor that saves her life. It's written, the armor just saved my life. Yep. Yep, yep, yep. So, I mean, the book could have been, you know, five chapters long. Five chapters. And then I could have moved on with my life. But no, she, okay, she doesn't kill her. That's fine. But she does break her arm, right? Which, if you think about it, it could have been way worse. Yeah, it could have been. And we also have heard now for quite a few chapters that she's weaker, right? She's just has, she has weaker bones. She, her bones, her and her, you know, joints come off all the time. So, this is, this is just harder even for her because it's just more, it's easier to break her, right? So, we get to chapter six. And in chapter six, it's like, okay, she's beat, right? She's completely beat. And at this point, it's like, no, no, no. She just needs to be out, right? And who comes to her rescue? Well, who do we think? And this is a chapter that I actually liked the least out of these five chapters that I read. Because I'm getting really annoyed and fed up with Dane. Like, she's made up her mind, let her be. And this chapter, you know, he takes her over to, he takes her to the healers. And he doesn't want her to be mended, right? So, he just wants her to be healed up to the point where she can just think, go and move on to describe quadrant. But she doesn't want, you know, there's someone has a power of actually like fixing the bones. And so they're much, much better and they can, you know, continue. And he's really against it. He's like, I don't want her to be healed all the way because I really want her to just go be ascribed. And, you know, so it was kind of tedious and annoying because it's a lot of like back and forth of like, you know, you shouldn't be here. You should be, you should be ascribed. And then she's like, no, I'm worth it. Like, I'm not going to go anywhere. But I mean, I think this gave her, this gave the book a scene for them to focus and really showcase how overprotective he is. And you're right, how he's kind of not listening. He's not listening to her. Borderline clingy. Like, this guy is too much, you know, like way too much. And like, you know, I predict that she's going to end up with Zaden at the end of this book. And I'm like, okay, I get it. Like, Zaden's given her space, you know? Zaden is, I mean, you're a few chapters ahead from this moment, but Zaden is also kind of what's been, has been out to Taylor too. So I know, like, I know what's going to go down between those two, right? And I'm already team Zaden. Whoa, that is early. Yep, it doesn't, because this guy is like suffocating. Like, I'm not even violent. And I feel suffocating by this guy. It's like, he was watching my every move. He was, you know, he's too much. Yeah, and that's very literally saying don't mend her. So then she can just kind of stay in dirt and go into the scratch quadrant. That's messed. Yeah, but she made her choice. She made it very clear like this has to be done. And plus the guy that has, you know, the powers to mend her was like, I could never not mend her. Like, I'm going to do it, right? I think Nolan was his name. Um, so I'm glad that at the end, um, they, yeah, they prevailed and Dane didn't really have a say, right? And there's something interesting here when, you know, she's kind of like all up on her on these drugs. So she's kind of drugged up. And she's saying things like, well, you know, I, I understand. Like she has a relic and she hates me because of what my mother did. And Nolan, who we know has been mending her like her whole life, basically, is grumbling about that. He's never agreed with the way that they actually conscripted all those kids to the writer's quadrant. And he was a punishment for their parents, you know, betrayal. So essentially they probably just knew, well, the best places had them to die without technically killing them is putting them through the writer's quadrant. So a lot of them may have wanted to go out to be scribes or something else, but they couldn't. They all had to go into the writer's quadrant. They're all bitter. They're all bitter about that. But that's also, that's another type of punishment in a way. Yeah. Well, I mean, you have to watch a parent's die and potentially die. You get to like the slave labor. Yeah. Right? Like gladiator style. So yeah. And at this point, because we know that, you know, Soronga also didn't agree with what they did to them, you kind of start to feel a bit for the kids of the rebellion. Mm-hmm. You know, there's a soft spot in my heart for them right now. A little soft spot for religion. For, for, for. Yeah, but she tried to kill her. And the crew, yeah, yeah, she did. But she's just trying to prevent her mom, you know? Well, I mean, with another person. Both of them had nothing to do with it. That's the craziest thing, right? It's like, both of them weren't there. It's just, um, okay. So at this point, she's like, okay, well, what am I going to do? Because this can't happen to me every two weeks. I can't just be getting beat down in this mat. And this is going to keep happening. And she also makes a decision not to be mended again. She only wants to get healed. And that's because she doesn't want, you know, rumors to spread that she just has to get mended. They're going to even see her as a weaker person. So she gets back to her room and she sees something. There's a note, right? There's a one handed, she opens the note. And this is actually under her pillow. And it's a note for Mira. Yeah. So Mira has actually passed on some sentimental, um, that letter book that she got from her brother, from Brennan before he died. And, you know, it applies to both of them, right? Not just, not just Mira. Like there's a lot there that Violet can also take from. And I thought that was pretty cool. So we don't know much about Brennan at this point in time. We know he died, but we don't know much more than that. Yeah. And we know that it is, we learn that it's tradition to burn everything that a person owns when they die. You burn all of their belongings. And, you know, the mother burned everything, except she didn't know about this book. Otherwise she would have burned it. And Mira held on to it because she knew that it could help if anything were to happen. Or maybe she kept it for some amount of reasons. And now it's in Violet's hands. So she gets to learn quite a bit through the book. And the very first entry she reads is about essentially telling her a way that she could have an upper hand in these battles on the mat. And she kind of makes a decision of like, okay, I know how I'm going to survive. Yeah. And I think this is super key, right? Because this is how she knows that they choose who you're facing in the mat ahead of time. Exactly. So if she's able to figure that out, then she can make a plan. Because once again, we know that she's strategic. We know that she's a smart and great planning ahead, right? Exactly. So now she has what she needs. So chapter seven, chapter seven, we actually find her outdoors. So she is kind of in the dark. She's looking for some materials, some things that she needs for some concoctions she's going to be making. And so she's at some point high up on a tree. She's trying to get some berries, purple berries, right, exactly what she's been searching for. And that's the entire evening. She's just kind of getting trained. And then now in the evening, she's come over to collect her berries. Yeah. And she finds exactly what she's been searching for. Some berries. And it makes you wonder, okay. What are these berries for? Did you know now? But did you know at the time what it was for? Yeah. You did? Right away. Okay. Right away. Maybe I need to do something different the way I read these books. I was like, I kind of got a bit of an idea, but not enough to kind of understand the whole just kind of putting two and two together, right? Created. So she's up on this tree. And plot twist. Plot twist. All these figures in black cloaks start peering. Like it's a cult meeting in the middle of the night. And she sees Imogen, right? So literally the person that just started to kill her recently. And Zaden Ryerson. Oh shit. Yeah, and when they first come into the picture right away, I thought, okay. So Imogen is into Zaden. And she gives them a few looks or whatever. And I was like, oh, is this where Violet first starts to get jealous of what's going on between these two? But then they were joined by more writers. Yeah. So it wasn't just the two of them out for a little lovers midnight stroll. More and more writers come. And Violet pretty quickly realizes they all have rebellion markers. So what did you think when you saw that? Well, so I first thought they were obviously scheming, right? To overthrow the government for a lack of a better term here. But we quickly learned that they're just trying to help each other, right? They're just trying to give each other tips on how to stay alive through this. And it makes sense. When you find your people that you can connect with on whatever level, right? You want to make sure you all do whatever you can to help each other out, right? Especially if you can die in a minute. Yeah, I think that was surprising to me too. Because I also had the same feeling. I'm like, oh, these people are out to get each other. They're going to get some. Something's going to go down and they're going to be the bad guys here. And we also find out that it's illegal for more than three of them to gather, right? Which, you know, I thought was really weird. Michael K, this is how they protect them. And they reminded me of something in Harry Potter where it's like, no groups of this many people can gather when, you know, umbridge was in charge. And so it just made me feel like it's something similar where, you know, there's mistrust. So we can't have you all. Yeah, there's power numbers, right? So I mean, you think about it. If you want to organize a protest or if you want to know, we're about what do you do? You've got to gather numbers. You've got to share the word to get a spread your message. And if you can't do that, then it makes it that much harder, right? So secretly, I'm glad that they have found a way to do this. Because once again, I have a soft spot for these people. Well, yeah, and I think Violet realizes that too. She's kind of like, oh, I have to admit it. It would be nice if like higher ranking writers would actually provide some guidance for the beginner writers, right? So it's kind of nice that they're doing that. And, you know, at this point, we also learned how many of them there are. There's actually 41 of them in the writer's quadrant. So there's quite a few marked ones between all the different, you know, levels that there are. And we get to see some of the other names. So far, we've really just kind of gotten to know Zaden. And we know Imogen, because from the, you know, she was at the mat. But we also see what she considers the big one, Garak, right? And he seems to be always kind of at the side of Zaden. So he seems to be kind of like a puppy. Yeah, that's what you call him. When you've got someone who like, he's always with you, who doesn't like, wants to be next to you at all times. That's his puppy. Oh my goodness. Okay, a big puppy. Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, I will go through that. And Garak sounds like it would be a puppy named. It is not. Garak is... Hey, come here. Come here, Garak. Oh, no. Please don't do that again. Like ever. Like ever again. Anyways, so, okay. So they're all, you know, they're talking about this. And really, at the end of the day, they're kind of just making a plan of who's, okay, who's stronger here, who's weaker here. Let's get you the support that you need to do better. And so here we see Garak's name shows up, right? Imogen shows up as well. And so we have some other names that are coming to picture in terms of who these people are. Yeah. So it's not very different from what, you know, read and buy and verdict are doing, but this is obviously in mass scale. We're larger numbers, right? And we kind of see Zayden be quite ruthless, right? This one, guys, like, I don't know if that's going to work. I want to go home. And, you know, he doesn't want to be there, right? He might have just wanted to be a scribe or type of potentially. And, you know, Zayden's like, well, then you're just not going to make it. Just accept it. Like, don't take anymore of my time. Some tough love. Some tough love from Zayden. And what are your thoughts? You still like them? No, for sure, I do. I do. I mean, in situations like, you can't sugarcoat it, right? Like, the kid knows he's going to die at some point. So like, if you're not willing to put in the work, if you're not willing to, you know, get out there and find a way to improve yourself and kind of get out of your own, you know, ass, you know, then you just got to suffer the consequences. But, you know, it's a new first year. It's how it happens. And we also learned that Zayden has a cousin, Bodie. So we have now have Imogen, Zayden, Bodie is Zayden's cousin. And we have Garak, who's kind of up there as well and rank with Zayden. Zayden says something to the kids who, kids, I don't know, 20 year olds, 20 year olds, they're kids that I don't quite understand. You know, he says, keep what you know, but recite whatever they tell you to. So it's saying like, don't share too much knowledge that you have, just repeat, you know, whatever they want you to repeat. Right. Okay. That's on that. So just don't give away any secrets. Like, don't any, until it may have that, that can help, but we should keep it to yourself. Which, it's not very different from what Violet wanted to do. What do you mean? Well, remember, she didn't want to kind of stand out. She didn't want to show that she had all this knowledge as well. Okay, okay. So there's a lot of similarities here between Zaden and Vi. Okay. You're calling her Vi already? Okay. So basically, at the end of the day, she's like, okay, it's really, there's really nothing wrong going on here. It's just a group of writers that are trying to help each other out. So, you know, at the beginning, she's like, oh my gosh, if people find out, I gotta, like, if I tell Dane what's going to happen because he's such a rule follower. And now she's realizing, oh, well, actually, if I tell, if I tell Dane, bad things are going to happen to these people. And I don't want it to happen because they're not doing anything wrong. Yeah. We're also showing that she, she's also very compassionate. Yeah. You know, for her, it's not just about, you know, being out there to draw blood. That's not what it is about for her. Well, some of them want to, right? So someone's kind of like, okay, so Zaden, when do we get to kill? No, I'm saying violet. Like violet isn't thinking that way. No, no, she's not. She's there. I think she's there, like, to prove herself. Like that's really what we can do. Yeah, she hasn't wanted to kill anyone. Exactly, right? So, you know, again, one other guy says, when do we get to kill violet, soaring kill? And he basically just says, soaring kill is mine. And I will handle her when the time is right. And that sentence has a lot of meaning. A lot of meaning, a lot of double. Why, why, why, why, why, why? Because I can, I can see it both ways, you know? Yes, you'll handle her so that people think that you are this ruthless guy who is out to get revenge. But deep inside, you'll handle her as in like, you want more than that. I think you want something deeper. We'll see, we'll see. I don't know if he knows that yet, but he's definitely like, just let me figure out what's going on with violet. And we'll go from there. Okay, so essentially, you know, they, they eventually leave, right? They leave in, they go back to bed in groups of three so that nobody thinks anything off. And she waits for a long time. She says she waits for a long time. Just to make sure that, you know, they're all gone. And she finally, she's like, cramping up. But she gets down from the tree. And all of a sudden, there are shadows. Shadows that lunge at her. And as she opens her mouth to scream, but the air supplies cut off by an elbow around her neck. And she's yanked against a hard shot. Yep, once again, also expected. Like, as I'm reading this, I'm like, okay, obviously, Zaden's gonna pop out of nowhere. And they're gonna have a little run-in together, right? And in this run-in, running, you know, we find out that Zaden has a really fucking cool power. I know, it's really cool. So cool, it's like one of the coolest ones. And it's terrifying if you think about it. Yeah, there's shadows everywhere. And he can wield them to do things. So I was actually like, if I had a power so far from the powers that I've read about, that I've seen, it's like, this is the one that I would want. Really? Yeah. Wow. Yeah. That's a good question, actually. I don't know one of the like, the powers that I know, which one I would want. But you'd know the storm, you know, the ability to take, you know, see the result of a battle before it happens. I don't need that in my day-to-day life. If Dane buddy touches your head, he can see your memories. I mean, that one's kind of cool. I like that one. No, it's a lot of touching. So I want to be able to do things without like, I can do something in distance. Yeah, I guess that's true. I was just thinking like day-to-day life. It'd be kind of neat if I could, you know, like touch my kid's head and then I could see like parts of their school day and like know what they saw at school because, you know, it'd be fun. In a day-to-day life, if I was up outside of college, I probably would, I would probably want something a little bit more vicious and violent that would help you survive, right? Yeah, or violent. Yeah. Interesting you say that. Okay, so we get to, so obviously we find out he's a shadow wielder and I don't know, there's just something about Zaden, right? And he's like the rough pitch of Zaden's voice anywhere, fucking soaring gale because he doesn't even know, right? He pulls out down her hood and he realizes who it is. And at this point, she's kind of just like, you're a shadow wielder? Like that's not even, that's not something she knew. There's no signant to scribe anywhere on his, like,
