Meanwhile, Xaiden is mad (again), Violet is confused (again), and Dain finally gets called out for being a walking security risk. We break down the shocking betrayals, the last-minute escape plans, and why Violet’s trust issues just hit an all-time high.

(Transcribed by TurboScribe.ai. Go Unlimited to remove this message.) Welcome to Pillow Talk and Paperbacks, the podcast where a husband and wife tackle romantic books one dramatic chapter at a time. I'm Mary Angelica and I'm all in for an epic love story. And I'm Christian here to question every life choice these characters make. We're here for the plot twists, the chaos, and a whole lot of laughs. All after wrangling our three boys to bed and finally claiming the couch for ourselves. So get cozy, grab a book. And let me remind you why none of this makes any sense. Welcome back to Pillow Talk on Paperback. This is Christian. This is Mary Angelica. And today we're recapping chapters 34 through 37. Yes, that's right. And we're almost getting to the end. I know. And you were good. It's very exciting. You didn't read the last two chapters. I'm very proud of you. Yeah, no, I stopped when I did. And just because I know, like, I'm almost there. It's almost the end. Well, and I think you also knew we were about to record. So it's like, I'll be able to read right after this. Yeah. And it wasn't that much of a cliffhanger. She's falling. Yeah, but we know she's not going to die. Oh, but what's going to happen? But it doesn't matter. She's not going to die. So it's not a cliffhanger. Yeah. Okay. So we get to chapter 34. Chapter 34 is when they're flying, right? So they're going towards their war game mission. It's a filler. It's a filler of a chapter. It's one of those boring chapters that has just... How is this boring? There's probably three things that happen in the whole chapter that are actually interesting. Well, one thing is, you know, magic is wilder here. We learn about what it means to be outside of the wards. Yeah, but that's not news to us, right? Because we've heard about this before. Yes, but now she's feeling it, right? So there's a pulsing sensation in her chest. There's a snap, almost like a rubber band snapping as she goes away from the wards. And it's easier for dragons to communicate, like, within the wards. Magic is more contained. I don't know. It's just, like, almost more balanced. And it's more wild outside of the wards. And so we learn that. And then they're heading out towards this mission. And how did you feel? Like, did you think this was going to be, like, a real mission? What did you think? Oh, 100%. 100%. Like, the whole idea of having... First of all, we haven't had a proper battle the entire book. So we've got these war games that are happening. And I'm like, okay, obviously... And I think I told you this before I read the chapters. I was like, I feel like something's going to go down. In the war games, I feel like they've been sent off not to do a simple, you know, another game or another activity, another field trip. Not actually war games. Exactly. So we have, you know, we have Andarna, who's, like, one of the ones that wants to come along, right, for the ride. So she's like, listen, I'm coming. And basically, everyone's kind of checking in on each other, right? We're flying, they're all flying in motion. And they're, you know, she's concerned. Andarna's a shiny target this far from the veil, because she is so bright, right? And kind of like, everything kind of glows off of her scales. And so there's anxiety, war games are going to come. I think one of the things that I felt when I was reading this chapter the first time was like, I was just nervous that there was going to be an actual battle. Because it meant like, I was just kind of like, nobody's really died. I mean, Jack, sure. But like, we all wanted Jack to die. We really haven't had like a character that we love, or care for die. So I think I was just getting nervous. I know I'm getting to the end of the book. So I'm like, something's gonna go down. I'm nervous. I'm anxious. And so when they were saying that, like, Violet was feeling the same thing. I'm like, yeah, we're feeling the same thing for the battle. Yeah. And I also thought that I just wasn't sure who was going to be the fallen rider. Or if it was maybe a dragon. I don't I don't know. Right. But but this chapter, like I mentioned, there isn't a lot here really, that was glowing. Right. Well, we have we have a lot of conversations with Liam. Right. He's kind of like, I don't know, kind of noting that something's going on with her and Zayden. He's like, are you doing all right with whatever that is, whatever's going on? And she's like, I don't even know. Right. He's like, listen, I think maybe you got yourself like in over your head over a few things. And so there's just like all of that that's happening. Zayden checks in with her. Right. It's like, how are you doing? I'm good. Just a little sore. Everyone's just kind of checking in on each other. We have this little downtime when basically he they kind of stopped for a stop. Yeah. A quick pit stop. Right. The dragons needed some some water. They had to stretch as well. So that's what they did. Okay. So then they're getting to the shore of the lake as Zayden walks away from Garrick and actually holds out his hand as she approaches. That was kind of cute. That was cute. That was cute. You know, and he's in front of everybody. Right. So it's like, listen, like, I don't care. I'll hold your hand. We're a thing now when he's not afraid to show it. You know, so I thought that was something that was long overdue to be to be honest. Yeah, it was cute. It was in front of everyone. And I thought it was interesting because at this point, we don't really catch on to the fact that everyone here is a marked one. But he does say, you know, she's like, oh, my gosh, we're going to say kind of thing. And he's like, none of them are going to say a single word about you or us. I trust every single person here with my life. Did you catch that? Like, well, the intention of the fact that every single person here is. No, I didn't. No, I had. Yeah, I didn't. I didn't click. But now that we know they're all marked ones make sense. Like, why else? Why else? Yeah. Say that. So. So he's massaging her, right? He's like, this is like a lot of I thought I care. I thought, okay, they made a pit stop because they they had to get their hands on each other. I was like, they're gonna go escape for a little bit. You're like, it's gonna be a little afternoon delight. And then that's not what happened. No. And they kind of hint at it, right? It's like, well, we got 10 minutes, you got 10 minutes, like, let's you know, and then there's a little bit of that. And one of the things too, is just like, I think for him and her, like, they play around with this a lot. The whole idea of like, they could just kind of go and have sex at this point, or they're flirting with each other and like all these different moments. But he's being very sweet. He's being very open, which I think is almost done on purpose, right? Because it's probably done on purpose. So that by the end of this chapter, as we know what happens, you feel the heartbreak too. Because like, it's like, they're a relationship, they're a couple, they're hanging out. Now they're like public with their friends and all the things, right? Yeah, he's like, you're mine, Violet. Yeah, you're mine. I'm going to keep you, right? And this is all the things that they're doing as they're getting really close to each other. And then we have a woman who shows up from behind Zayden. And her voice is like velvet. And she says, is this seriously how you dragon riders spend your time? Yes. Noting that she's not a dragon rider. Exactly. Who did you think it was before you read any further? I actually thought it was Sorengil, like General Sorengil. When I first saw, I was like, holy shit, like the mom followed them here. And she found Zayden and Violet. That's really what I thought. And so I went back to read. I was like, did I miss it? Did they say who it was? And I was like, no, there's no mention of this. So I'm going to keep reading and figure out who this is. Yeah. And then kind of everyone's like trying to get to Zayden. Bodhi's like running over trying to get to Zayden. I mean, like Zayden kind of like they're here. And Zayden wraps Violet in shadows so that this woman doesn't see her. Too late. Too late, right? Woman had seen her. It's like silly to hide what's already there. That's General Sorengil's youngest. Still, do you have an idea? Like at this point, who are you thinking? What's happening? What's going on? At this point I'm not thinking because I'm like, it's not General Sorengil. And I was like, who is it? I just kept reading really fast. We just get to the point, you know, and he's like, fuck, I need you to stay calm violence. So, you know, and this is a little nickname for her, which, which I don't like. I really don't. I've told you this before, I think. I don't, I don't care for it. I don't understand. Like, would you like if I called you like, hey, murder? How are you? How are you doing today? Well, I don't know. Like, it's just, it's just an odd nickname. It's Violet and it's violence. I think it's like, I think it's a fun, cute, like, you think it's cute because of the situation of when they're where they are. Yeah. Would you call me like crucifixion? No, it's like related to Christian. We're not in a world where that really matters, but they're in a world where being violent matters and where like strength and cunning and being like, being violent and being like, you know, aggressive or whatever, getting your way in this world in Vaxayeth, especially. There's not a lot of Zayden that bothers me, but him calling Violet violence, just, yeah. I, I feel like half of the time when he says violence, I just, I ignore it and I just pretend. Okay. So there, there, now there's a pair of Griffin writers that are standing here. So you see Griffin writers and you're like, the bad guys are here. What are your thoughts? Yeah. Well, I was okay. Here's our battle scene. This is where things are going to start. You know, we're going to fight, we're going to have a quick little fight with some, with some, I knew that they wouldn't stand a chance, right. Cause you've got so many dragons versus, you know, two Griffins, but I was okay. This is our first glimpse at what a, what a big battle will, you know, turn out to be between the Griffins and the dragons and their flyers and, and the writers. Yeah. And so we have like, she's, she's calling out for Taryn. She's like, you know, calling out for help, basically. Taryn's like, I'm coming. Right. So we still are feeling like there's danger here because even of the way, like Taryn says like coming, he doesn't even say like, it's okay. He just says I'm coming. And then, you know, and Darna's like the Griffins look kind of tasty. And you know, the woman's still kind of like a little bit annoyed. She's like, you brought like a fricking, like a fricking soaring to the mission over here. And you know, there's the, the Griffins are getting in place. Right. Everyone else kind of like shows up is around and no one is like reacting. Exactly. It's like they expected Griffins to be there. Like, this is a totally normal thing that they're, they've gotten used to. Right. So she's like, I don't know what's going on, but like, she's like, the odds are in our favor. Plus she's like, I can zap them all with my thunder. So she starts getting like all built up for her thunder. And Zayden is the one that turns and hauls her like against her. Like he like wraps her around her and she's like, don't, like, don't, don't do that. And she's like, you know, like, just like kind of like, trust me, like, it's okay. And all the, all the different things. Yeah. I think it's funny. Cause at some point, I don't know if it was Liam or Garrick, like they're holding onto her, like really, really tight. Um, and then like, she's like, let me go. And then like Taryn is like right there. Like, I will like burn you if you don't let her go right now. I will turn you into a barbecue right this second. And I think this is one of those, like, it's almost like the goodbye scene before everything changes. Right. Like Zayden kisses her and she's like, what the hell is this guy doing? Like we're kissing before we die. And he's like, I need you to trust me. Like, if you've ever trusted me, I need you to do it now. And like, just stay calm. Right. Yes. Liam is the one that's like holding her back and all the things. And everyone's like, you know, looking at the situation. Can you imagine that like when you're the only one not in on the joke? It must be awful. Yeah, exactly. Right. Like how? Yeah. And at this point she thinks it's just Zayden. And then as soon as, you know, the woman's like, you know, you're fucking early, he says, like, yeah. Well, here's the thing. As soon as, as soon as that comment was made, I was like, okay. Okay. They're good. Right. Because I've never not trusted Zayden. Right. Right. So I'm like, if Zayden knows him, if he's like friendly with him, amicable, then, then everything will be fine. Right. Now let's go ahead and get Vi on the same page as everybody else. Right. Right. But at that point in time, I was like, so the Griffins are not the bad guys here. Right. Goes back to my theory of fucking the king and generals. They're all in cahoots. They're the real bad guys here. Well, that's where we end. It's a pretty short chapter. Like you said, you feel like it's filler. I feel like a lot happened in terms of, you know, the story moved dramatically. They held hands and then Griffin Riders are actually good guys. We don't know that yet. Well, once again, I stand with Zayden being on the good side. I stand with Zayden. I love that. Okay. So chapter 35, um, you know, she's kind of like, okay, let me just keep breathing. I'm almost like, it's almost like she knows she's like on enemy territory now. And so she can't really like trust anything right now. You know, she went from being like completely oblivious and feeling like, you know, left out to holy shit. They're all against me. Like I'm the only one here that is completely out of the loop and Griffin Riders are supposed to be the bad guys and they're all working together. Yeah. Right. So this is where we find out like a lot of things. Right. And we realized like why Zayden has been like escaping. They've been given weapons to the Griffin Riders and, um, you know, giving them stuff. And now her brain is like going a mile a minute. And she's like, okay, like there's betrayer. He's actually been providing weapons to the enemy. All these things are happening. Like, and then the Griffin Riders are like, we had to, we were here because we had to go defend this place that was overrun. And then we lost a village in the vicinity. You know, the Venon never come this far West. They start talking about Venon. What were your thoughts? Well, um, well now we know who some potential bad guys are. Right. Um, and Vi is pretty shocked at this point in time. I think I was equally surprised because I didn't think it would actually in this book anyway, I didn't think they were going to be like, they're going to play like a key role or be a factor. Right. I honestly was not expecting the Venon and Wyvern to make an appearance or to be like, no, I thought they were just building it up. And I was like, in the next we're going to be introduced to, and actually, you know, have a proper, um, more of like, you know, in depth into, into the Venon. Right. So in this section here, I think one of those things, and I think you're right in that, like, we're getting to the end of the chapter anyway. So you can't, it does kind of tell you that we're going to talk about this a little bit more in the next book. Um, but in this one, you know, Zayden says it's almost like the Griffin Riders are trying to tell them information. And then Zayden's like, you know, just know, we can only know that, like, we don't want to know all the details, um, because we can put everything at risk. All it takes is one of us to be interrogated. So they're, they're holding this, this has been going on for a while. There is a whole operation that is, that is happening. And, um, you know, she's still kind of like, just absorbing, she's just standing there, absorbing all the things. And, um, you know, she's checking in with Tan, like, are you getting this? Like, are you listening to what's happening? He's like, unfortunately, yes, but he still doesn't tell her. Of course. Yeah. And the Griffin Flyer obviously doesn't trust, uh, a Zorongail, right. And she makes a comment about how, like, you know, really a Zorongail is going to put out like her neck ring. But he's like, that's not going to happen. That's, that's ridiculous. Right. So obviously there's history there. Um, they know the weight that the name carries. They know the impact and, you know, and the power that a Zorongail has. Yeah. Right. And he says, I wonder what your King would be willing to pay in order to get back the daughter of his most illustrious, generous general. So like, can we take her as like a, as a hostage? Yeah, yeah, exactly. Let's, let's go ahead. And that's when everyone's like, oh my God, like Bodhi's like, fuck, Terran's just gnarling. Like, there's just like, maybe this is when the battle happens, you know? But Zayden's like, she's not up for discussion. Like, you know, he's still there defending her, all the things, blah, blah, blah. But this is when he realizes, like, you know, she realizes no one else is shocked about what's happening. And she realizes he said that everyone he could trust. And then there's rebellion relics everywhere, right? Garak's here. He's a section leader, but he's also has a relic, right? Bodhi, Imogen, like all these people. And Liam, like Liam, who's always been by her side. Exactly. Yeah. And then she's like, Terran, like, I'm surrounded almost, right? Yeah. And that's when he says, like, she says, like, they all carry rebellion relics. Like, everyone here is a child of a separatist, like, except her. And so, yeah. And she's all like, oh, I fell for it. Like, you know, they tricked me. Why are you saying it like that? Because, Violet, obviously... What do you mean, obviously? She's... Obviously. She's been trained. But some of the stuff is so obvious. How? For her. Well, because me as a reader... For her. Okay. But I'm me. I'm not Violet. So, I'm telling you, as a reader, this is like, Violet, just get over it. Like, just move on from your initial shock to, okay, all right, we're in this together. You know, why are we friends, right? The books wouldn't work this way. Like, this is just the way that she has to react. Because she's grown up her entire life in a certain way, right? With certain rules. The Griffins are the bad guys. You don't... You know what I mean? Venant is a children's fairy tale thing. Like, a scary bedtime story. And right now, she's realizing that she's been... Like, everyone's told her the Marked Ones are bad. The Marked Ones are betraying us. She knows that's not the case. She just saw it happen in front of her. So, what happened? That they're in cahoots. That they have a mission. That they're giving them weapons. Literally, weapons that are made for them. And they just told her why. They said, hey, there's Venant. There's Wyvern. She hasn't even seen them. She's trying to wrap her brain around it. So, of course, she's like... She feels completely betrayed. And I think that's one of the things that she realizes in a moment. Like, you and Undyne lied to me too. You knew, like, what he was doing the whole time. And he says, like, dragons are bound by bonds. You know, there's only one other bond more secret than that of a dragon and it's rider. And it's a dragon and it's mate. So, he could not share any of those details. And so, now she's like... She brings up Dane and she's like, Dane's right. Dane was right all along. Like, that he... This was all, you know? This has just been a ploy to earn her trust. No, it's just a shock. But she knows that Dane isn't right. There's just a lot of heartbreak. And I felt very sad in this chapter for her. Like, I think like you as a reader, obviously, I'm kind of like, you know, of course, there's... You know, Zayden is good. I have to trust him. Like, I believe in him. And at the same time, like, you're feeling the heartbreak that she's feeling in this moment of complete betrayal. I never felt that at all. Not for her either? No, no, no, no, no. You're just like, absolutely. She has to. I mean, she will. But you didn't feel any pain in this chapter? I felt zero pain in this chapter. My only pain was like how painful it was to be reading like, all fucking traitors. I fell for it. I fell for him. It's like, that was the only pain I was feeling. A hundred percent. No way. You don't have any empathy for her. Okay. I told you. I get like being the one left out of the joke. You have no idea what's going on. I get it. But they've already told you what's going on. Sure. You can have five minutes to yourself so you can just, you know, absorb what was being said. But at some point in time, like, and I know she gets over it eventually. Right. But it's just a lot of unnecessary, like, you know, you're the villain and never should have been, you know, working with you because you're the enemy and like, how could you do this to me? Right. And then the fact that she's also doubting something like Liam, really? I don't know. I feel for her. This is such a hard scene to read because it's like, to me, there's a lot of just her emotion in here. And, you know, Zayden is doing his best to share the info. Maybe this is not the way he wanted to tell her, you know, with the frigging Griffin writers showing up and all the things. But then they have to tell her, they're like, listen, like, these are the only weapons that can fight Venon. So that's why we have to give it to them. And this is when we understand everything. Like, they're real. Right. And also, all of the things that are happening are happening outside of the border because they're the ones that are at risk. And so what did you think? Because like, now I give you more clarity as to not even just like why they're working together, but kind of the heart of the mission. Yeah. So one of the things that I thought was, that I think brought everything together for Vi was when she realized that the dagger looked just like the one that her mom has, you know, in the office. Exactly. Right. So she's like, okay, well, this is starting to add up. Right. Obviously, they're not just making shit up. Like, if mom has a dagger like this one, it must be for a reason as well. I think that kind of helps it come together for Vi. And I think it also gets her thinking about, like, who's been telling me the truth? Who's been lying to me? Like, what's the reason why, you know, we're not being told everything that is happening during, you know, and Zayden gives her, doesn't he give her one as well? Yeah, he shows her one. He's like, listen, this is what they look like. This is the only thing that, this is basically made of the same material that powers her wards. So when they give a lot of weapons, they make one of those wards weaker. Do you understand that? Oh, what? I didn't clue into that. Is that why some wards are faltering? Yes. Well, in a way. So basically, it says, the only thing that kills venom is the very thing powering our wards. Okay. Is this why there have been raids along our borders? They're looking for the material that we use to power our wards, I ask, right? It's like, yes, the material is forged into a weapon to fight the venom. Here, take this. And he shows her a blade. So the griffin flyers are raiding the wards to get the material they need to fight the venom. Exactly. That's why they're raiding all the wards. Gotcha. Yeah. And they are, you know, Zayden and Garak and Bodhi and them are working to create more weapons to give to them, right? They're not stealing it from the wards or like having them made specifically to send to them, but they could be technically made to power a ward to make it stronger. But they feel like that's unfair. And we're retaining all the resources where everyone else should have a fair shot at life, you know, beyond the wards. So that's an important aspect of the whole thing because that's a big part of why she's also like, that's our wards, right? But then she's battling her own like feeling of wanting to also help other people. Yeah. And you know what? I thought that whatever this resource is was sort of like, like infinite. Like I never thought that it could be a thing that like would run out. I just thought that, you know, the people from Navarre were just kind of hoarding all of it, you know. But I didn't think that them making these weapons would actually affect the outposts. Well, they're not stealing it from there. So they're not the ones weakening it, right? But the Griffins are when they steal it. When they steal the weapons, they lower the power of the wards and it can make the ward fall, right? So they need more of that material. So how's your mind feeling about that? Well, like I'm not loving it. It's the alloy embedded into the rune Mark Tilt, right? That makes me gasp. And this is when he's like, your mother has one and it's for the same reason. And that's the other thing. He's like, you have to, it's almost like this now becomes political, right? Like the government is hiding this from you. They don't want you to know that they're doing this and hurting all these other people by not helping them. And they just want to keep you feeling like it's not happening, right? And it's like leadership will stop at nothing to sit behind their wards and keep the venon secret. I watched my own father executed trying to help these people. You stopped when you read that and you were like, wait, yes. So what did you think about that? Well, so I always thought, I always had this idea that the father wasn't actually, um, a traitor, you know, I just didn't know the reason why, like, I don't know what was, what he was doing. Um, but now that we know he was just trying to help everybody. Yeah. And that's something that I think Vi can relate to as well. You know, um, she kind of has that good, you know, bone in her body. Um, and so I think this was key because it flips everything upside down. And now we have confirmation that indeed the King, General Sorengil and everybody else that's in power, they're not the good guys that they are, you know, made out to be. Yeah. Right. Like I, I get they're trying to protect their people, but at what cost? Exactly. And that's, that's literally the dilemma of this, of this moment in the book. And the dilemma of is Aidan and Bodhi and them doing the right thing is what should Violet do at this point. Right. And she recalls a quote from her dad. I know you'll make the right choice when the time comes. And it's like, he warned her in the only way he could have through books. So it's like the dad knew something was going on and kind of relayed that message through the book. And this is the moment she's like, now I know, and he's like, trusting me to make the right choice. And so she does. And she's like, you know, I believe you, I believe everything's happening, but it doesn't mean I trust you, which is fair. She's been lied to the whole time. That's fine. That's okay. So yeah. Yeah. Even Darna feels bad as well. And he does tell her, like, you know, he's been, he yells at her. Like, he says like, you love me. Cause he's like, no, I love, he's like, no, you love me. Like, let's get it right. She's like, it's based on a lie. And he's like, no, no, no. Everything's been real. All the things. And then Darna, you know, says like, we didn't lie. Um, we know we didn't lie. We just didn't tell you everything. Just, you know, feel bad for her. But, um, you know, uh, Taren also feels like, you know, you have every right to be angry. Like, you know, we made a choice to protect you and your, without your consent, it was an error. And, and one that I won't make again. So I like to do that too. Cause it's like, she also has to build trust with her dragons back, you know, from this moment. So, um, one of the things that I think, um, is important here is like the relationship of her dad, with her and her dad. And it just starts to show you that the dad knew something. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And I feel like the mom's disdain for the dad, like they're kind of like hatred, sort of like indifference, um, could be a lot of this. They had different opinions as to how, you know, things, things should be, you know, how things should operate. Obviously mom was like keep the power to ourselves all the way. And dad was like, well, I don't totally agree with this. Yeah. And he, I think he knew that like Vi would be the right one of the three kids, um, to, to, yeah, to make the right decision. And I think Taren also says that he's like, I chose you for your intelligence. Like, I know that you'll be able to figure this out. And she's going through all her emotions of everything, but she's also recalling a lot of key facts and pieces to everything. Right. Like she remembers that other quote, like it only takes one desperate generation to change history, um, even erase it. And she's like, wow. Like he always told me that scribes had all the power, which is so true. I mean, it's true in this world too, right? Like when you see books that are being like, you know, banned, it's the same thing. Like you can erase history and then over a generation, people will forget it or think of it differently. So, um, okay. So very, very much we get to the, now we get to the outpost. So there were actually get to the destination that they were getting heading to for war games and crickets, but it's empty. Yes. What were your thoughts? Um, I was like, okay, all right. So that wasn't the battle, but maybe this, yeah, but maybe it starts here. Obviously there's about to be an ambush is what I thought. So, um, but I wasn't sure exactly who was going to be doing the ambushing. Um, I wasn't sure if they were just sent there, um, so that other like dragon riders from, but this guy could just take out Zayden and his little crew. Um, so at this point, a lot of questions, right? Once again, I think right now, as I'm, you know, when I was reading that piece, I still didn't think that the Venon and the Wyvern were going to come into the picture. Okay. Yeah. That's the one thing that I think caught me totally off guard. Okay. That's fair. Well, cause I think you were reading so fast and it was so much about the Griffins and stuff. Like they were just kind of mentioning the Venon as like a thing, you know, but, um, what we do find here is that like, they're kind of like sussing it out. This doesn't feel good. It feels off from what should be happening right now. And they also say, this is one of the most strategic like garrisons they have. So there's no chance in hell that they would actually have emptied this out for a war game because it's, it's a true garrison. Like that's an essential outpost that they have. So emptying it for our kids, like for our young people's game is not a thing they would do. Um, and this is when everything's like, you know, there's some, uh, a drift of Griffins and their flyers are approaching from the South. And so you're probably at this point thinking we're fighting these Griffins. And, um, Zayden, like instantly, like his eyes, like, look like super angry. And he's like, what the Danes say to you before we left. Right. And he's like, he said, I'll miss you, Violet. Right. And he's like, no, he said, and he's also said that I was going to get you killed. And so now they're thinking like, was there something else to that? Right. Like, did you tell him about my trips here? Like, did you tell him that I used to, I already came here. Like, does he know what's happening? And she's like, no, like I've never told him. It's like violence. Like, did he ever touch you after I told you about, you know, coming to Athabine? And she's like, what? And it's like, like this, like with like touching your head. And she's like, uh, well, that's just how he always touches me. Well, fucking Dane. I was like, I've been calling it this whole time. Like he's not to be trusted. He's a heartbroken little, just desperate little man that can be obviously, um, manipulated. Right. By anyone and everything. And that's exactly what happened here. Right. He is so obsessed with following the fucking rules and looking good in front of everybody that, um, he just read her, her memories. Yeah. And she's just like, she's completely shocked. Right. Just like, I can, I can't even believe he would ever do that. But again, at one point he tried, right. He did try. He's like, give me that memory or whatever. And so we're feeling all the feels. Yeah. I, I was, I was very upset. Yeah. This is one of the things that happened in these four chapters that got me the most, but because it was like, I fucking told you. So that's, that's why I was so upset about it. Yeah. And so they find a letter. It's actually written in Dane's dad's handwriting. Um, what do you, how do you say that? Cornell? It's the weirdest, weirdest word. It's like Colonel Sanders. A-T-O-S. And
