These chapters, they were something else. I am Mary Angelica. Hey guys, this is Christian. And there's gonna be a lot of pillow talk. Yeah, about this paperback. About this paperback. Okay, so we're here covering... Let's just say, holy shit, let's get out of the way. Let's just rip the band-aid off. Chapter 30 to 33. 30 to 33 of Fourth Wing. All the build-up, all the tension. Yeah, I'm not even gonna let you look at the book. I'm just gonna ask you questions. Ask me questions about how I felt. Chapter 30. Okay, so we ended chapter 29 with, you know, she's just killed Jack. She's trying to get her mind right. And she feels super, super guilty, all the things. Zayden shows up at her door, right? He's there. He's like, do whatever you need to, to kind of get this out or whatever. And then he says, show me what you've got. She did. She did. That's how it ended. They kissed. And chapter 30 picks up where we have all been wanting this to go. And we've been waiting a long time in this book. At this point, it's been over 370 pages. And we're like, it's about time. So you've highlighted some things. One of the things I will say is that you read all four chapters in one go. In one sitting, I couldn't stop. It's, I mean, you'll understand why. I couldn't stop, right? But all four chapters. All four chapters. And they were great. And that wasn't your plan. You said that you were planning something. No, I was tired. I was like, I'm gonna go lie down in bed and maybe read a chapter and go to sleep. And then like four chapters later, I had to, I had to, yeah. Yeah. So let's get started. So chapter 30, it says his body goes rigid. His body stayed rigid for like the whole chapter. It did, yeah. So I want to know, listen, I mean, there's a lot of really, really sexy quotes in this part of the book. There's, you know, there's groaning. There's like the way that like he, what is it? Like he growls different words at her. Different ways that they're like getting naked. They're, they have sex. They have, I think a couple of times they have sex in this chapter. Yeah, I think she has two orgasms, I think, or two or three. They were counting. Right. They were counting. Does this feel like I don't want you? I always fucking want you. It's a lot of this like buildup, like you said, that finally just gets completely released and it doesn't help that she's in this like emotional state. Right. Yeah. So I want to know, you know, less about specific lines, but more so what was your experience? Because you had no idea it was going to be like this. I didn't. I, you know, I've always joked that she's like, you know, she's really horny, that she really wants Aiden. And, and I knew at some point this was going to happen, but I didn't expect it to be like in this detail, like this in depth, to be honest. I've never read anything like this before. I've seen things like this before, but I've never read anything like this before. And it, it was. Caught you off guard? It caught me off guard in a, in a, in a pleasant way. Like. Sure. I, I enjoyed everything that I was reading. Like. Yes, as you should. So descriptive. Yeah, you can picture it. You can picture everything happening. Yes. And, and, and it's so, I like the fact that, you know, she didn't make it overly like, you know, not, not like fake or fantasy-ish. A lot of it was like relatable. A lot of it. Of course it's relatable. It's two people having sex. I know. But a lot of the things that she was describing and they were doing and the tension. It's like the author has had sex. I guess so. I guess so. Listen, nothing is better than reading fiction like this, especially romance, written by a woman. She knows exactly what we need to read, what we need to hear, what we need to see to be able to like have that reaction as we're reading the book, because she knows exactly what, you know, a woman is thinking like in that moment as well. And it's like the way and where she wants the hands and all the different things. Like it's all in the book. Right. And so it's a very vivid, you know, and it isn't in first person. I think that's also part of it. You're getting like her thoughts, her emotions. Cause it's, it's written in first person. Yeah, no, it honestly did feel like, like I was there. An active participant. It's just like, just like watching, you know, like this threesome that I've been, you know, that I have a theory about the whole time. It's like them two and like me watching in the corner. It's not the dragon, now it's me. So you highlighted a few lines. I think I actually want to know, like, so you started reading. So let me see. At the beginning of the chapter, it's like, you know, Violet, mouth against mouth. This is exactly what I want. Actually, look, you tore this page. My God. Anyways, so our mouths collide. The kiss is hot. At this point, you're not maybe, you know. At this point, they're still kind of like, like he's playing hard to get. He's like, you know, you don't want this as he's like kissing like her neck, you know? So there's still kind of like a little foreplay, you know, a little teasing going on. And just like that, like, you know, last minute. My heart isn't playing into this decision. You know, stop being so honorable and fucking Satan. So fucking honorable, she said. And fuck me. Listen, the entire chapter was actually one of the best things that I've read in this book. In this book. Yeah. Does it beat her finding her dragon? Yes. Okay. Yes, it does. I'm not surprised. Yes, it does. Okay. So tell me also, because you were reading, were you like, did you end up breathing really fast? Were you just like kind of stopping and being shocked halfway through? Like, what was your reading experience of the chapter? I was reading really fast. And then I found myself also going back again, just to kind of like, make sure that I didn't miss any little detail, you know? Because like, I wanted to just, yeah, picture it all and understand it all. Listen, you know, I've talked a lot of shit about this, you know, book in the past. And I liked it. I liked it. And so what, because I think the other thing you said to me, you know, I like, I came into the room and he was like, I may or may not have already read all four chapters. He was completely shocked at like, he's like, oh my God, these chapters. And so I want to know, because you said something like, I thought that they were going to be more cheesy or something like that. I thought they would be like, I don't even know how to explain it, but I didn't think it was going to be this real and raw. That's not what I was expecting. I really thought it would be some like, like a very cheesy fake. I don't think, you know, just like. Romance for romance. Yeah. Like an actual, exactly. And also a relationship you care this deeply about. Yeah. Because I think at this point also, we're just like, oh my gosh, like this is happening. And it's kind of what I said before, where like, you know, you were like, I thought there was going to be more of this in the book. And it's like, well, it's a really, really, it's a slow burn into it because you have to want it as much. So by the time this happens, you're almost getting that. You're like, oh my gosh, it's happening. Just like Violet is feeling it. Just like Zayden is feeling it. Because you've been, we've been being teased the whole book. Yeah. Right. About them being together. Chapter 30 was, it was honestly, I don't want to say incredible, but it was, it was a great chapter. Well, listen, if you've never read anything like this, I'm not surprised because it's a whole new world of, you know. It was a first. And, and, and, you know, as I read, I try to picture everything that's happening. So, you know, I've been picturing like dragons and I'd be picturing, you know, the fighting with Jack, you know, you know. But then seeing this, like playing, playing it. Yeah. It was, it was something very enjoyable. It was enjoyable. You're so welcome. Oh, oh, thank you. Thank you. You are so welcome for being introduced to this world. Listen, don't make me beg. This is our bad idea. Only within these walls. Anyway, so the other thing that's important in this chapter is that it's very much like not correct to be sleeping with anyone in a higher rank. And so basically he's kind of saying like, I don't trust my temper. If anyone says anything about like you sleeping your way to like the safety or the top or anything like that. It's just like, I don't care what anyone thinks about me. Like, you know, she, she, she very much said that. Yeah. But then when, when everything's said and done, right. They talk about something a little bit more deep and personal, you know. They talk about the, the, the silver markings that he has. Yes. And what was your take on that? So the, so we find out the silver markings represent each life of each of the marked people, which are 107 of them. Yeah. And he took personal responsibility for each and every one of them. So they are individual scars on his back. Yeah. And, and, and, and I don't think I had any theories about what those markings were. And so when I saw that he is like the responsive one, it's like, oh, everything makes so much more sense, right? Like why everybody looks up to him. Yes. Why these kids are so, so close to him. Right. You know, why Liam, you know, feels like he owes him so much. Yeah. He's like I owe him everything. Yeah. Yeah. And, and, and, you know, why he's so tense and why he's so protective over everything and why he's so closed off to a lot of people as well. And also why he started that club basically to like help everyone. Well, I'm responsible for all of you. Any one of you falls out of line, you know, and I'm the one responsible also. And she says like, what happened? And he says, you really don't want to know. He's like, I do. And like, there's a lot of them. And that's when, you know, she, he confesses. And he says, I saw the opportunity to make a deal and I took it. So she says like, what kind of deal leaves you with scars like that? He's like the kind where I personal, I take personal responsibility for the loyalty of the 107 kids and rebellions, the rebellion leaders left behind. Yeah. So it's like he saved 107 lives that night. Yeah. That's exactly what he did. Yeah. And it's, and it's more so like if any, any of them basically do anything, you know. Yeah. Exactly. But it also gave them all an opportunity, whether it's, at least it's in the writer's quadrant somewhere. Then they fell asleep. Well, before they fall asleep, before they fall asleep, they, she wanted to know why he thought, cause he was kind of like, I, I assumed you were going to be a lightning wielder. Remember how you caught that in the other chapter and we didn't really know why. And he says, I thought you did it the first night Taryn channeled power to you, but I wasn't sure. And that was the night that they kissed. And at some point in that chapter, you can hear, read something around like thunder lightning or something along those lines. And that was actually her. Yeah. So he's been watching her closely. Like he, he, he don't, well, obviously we know he cares for her. So, so yes, they fall asleep. Um, and at this point she wakes up and he's gone, but there's some flowers. I know. There's some violets. I know. Um, wasn't expecting that to be honest. I, I thought he would leave cause obviously he can't be there in the morning. Um, but the flowers, it's like, okay, I got to go. But it wasn't a one night stand. Is it, you know, I felt like, you know, here, I care for you. There was some thought there. Which again, totally like, it was a surprising thing. I think even for the reader. Um, okay. So then they get to professor Carr's class, right? Well, no, he, he's knocking at her door. Yeah. He shows up. So she wakes up like with a knock and she gets up and it's Carr. She thought it was Liam, but she was like, what? And then it was Carr who said like, we have to train your skill before you, you know, burn this place down. It's what he said. Right. So there's a whole like back and forth where she doesn't feel like she can trust him. Well, yeah. And also it's like she, her duty right now is going to the archives and retrieving books. So it's like, well, let's just not have you go near books right now when we don't even know what you're going to blow up. So let's have you away from that. Um, yeah. So she's not sure too much about this guy. And neither is Taryn. Taryn obviously has his reservations when it, when it comes to Carr. Yes. You know, um, and you know, he's trying to get her to like practice aiming and, and, you know, how do you get it? How do you make the lightning happen? What's your take on Professor Carr? Well, I mean, I know that he killed the one kid, right. That we saw. Um, so he seems to me like someone who, who will like act or pretend to be on your side. But in reality, he's got like, you know, other motives. Yeah. And he has like a way of like also kind of doing these little insults. He says like, it's always intriguing to me how nature finds balance. You know, uh, this kind of power finding someone so, you know, would you not call yourself fragile? Yep. Exactly. Okay. We can kind of start to see who he is. And then he makes a comment, um, about her and Zayden, you know? Um, so basically he says like, you know, make sure you stay in line. Like you and Zayden, uh, together. Someone that like, you know, can't go unchecked pretty much. Right. Yeah. It's a lot of power for like, it's like a power couple, right? Um, and so that's something that I think rings true for the fact that he's like the son of a rebellion leader. And, you know, now it's like, okay, you guys are close and you're both really, really powerful. Let's kind of watch that a little bit more closely. Um, and so one of the things too, that she, she's kind of still upset about, we're kind of unsure about with him is like the way he killed that kid for, for it. And she says, you know, I'll never understand why mind reading is at that sentence. And he says, because knowledge is power. There are security risks to the entire kingdom, right? Yeah. Yeah. So obviously the, the king generals are trying to suppress anyone that would potentially have more power or more knowledge than them. So Zayden was very close to being one of those, but he actually has to touch someone to read their mind. So he can be controlled easily. Exactly. Right. And he has, and therefore he's not also a risk, right? Because it's not like he's. And he's a rule follower, as we know, teacher's pet. So he's not going to do anything to go against. Yeah, exactly. The government. And so then she's basically struggling to wield. Right. I mean, she's really only done it like when she's lost control with obviously with killing Jack. And then during her night of having sex, like there was lightning all throughout outside. We didn't also mention that her entire bedroom got destroyed. Yeah. It destroyed her bedroom, but also there was lightning everywhere. And so what he's saying is like, okay, now you got to wield like on purpose. Right. And she's like, I don't even know like how to do it. It was a result of like emotional reactions. And Taryn says, should I get the wing leader? Yeah. Good old Taryn always there to, you know, crack a joke. Right. So then Zayden's the one that actually says like, you got a problem, you know, and so basically she's kind of saying like, yeah, like I gotta figure out how to wield, you know, like there's nowhere in existence. You could go that I couldn't find you, he says. Because they're wielding from they're talking to each other from quite a distance, right? She's like up on some mountain. And so basically she, he throws all these like memories at her of like their night. And I think it floods her with emotion. And then she ends up being able to. So it was like, it was, it was from his point of view. Yes. So she kind of saw herself, you know, reacting and being in the moment and that triggered more lightning. Yes, exactly. So then that's how she starts lightning. And so we realized here, this is going to be her training situation. She's going to have to be training. She's going to be training lightning strikes. And he's like, okay, let's do it five more times. And obviously she can't, she cannot aim right now. Yeah, I told her the place. Okay. So we get to chapter 31. And at this point they're having a conversation. Zayden comes in and, you know, just talking to her. And he's like, listen, like this happened. And he's like, they're both kind of smiling about it. And she's like, this doesn't have to be awkward. I was, I was annoyed, honestly. Why? Right? Like, I think it's one of the first times that I'm annoyed at Zayden. Because, you know, they've had all this tension. They finally have sex. And now he's like, oh, she says, look, this doesn't have to be awkward or anything. I shrug trying to ease the tension. Yeah. Because Zayden feels a little more like he's the one that kind of wants to stay away a bit. You know? So I was annoyed because I was like, after all of this and then the tension, now you're going to go back to just what pretending that you guys don't have, you know, this kind of like, you know, lust for each other. Yeah. So that was annoying. But we hear about the book again. So he picks up the book that Meera like gave to him. And it's about these, you know, we know it's about these fables and stuff. So the book, it's just like keeps being mentioned. Right. But we don't yet know anything about this book. So she, you know, she's kind of just letting him know because he's like in her room, kind of like perusing her stuff. And really, he hasn't really been in there other than when he came in to support her. And then eventually they had a really great night. So she says, you know, I can wield. I can't aim. I'm very exhausted, you know? And then she's just like, she looks at him. He's looking away. They're just kind of there. And she's like, tell me something real, which I love. You know, it's like her line to try to kind of bring him back to their conversation. And then she's asking specifically, where did you go the night I found you in the courtyard? Do you remember that? Yeah, yeah, of course. Yeah, yeah. Did you have any? I don't remember if you had any idea where they had gone. I don't think so. Now that you know him a little more, do you have any idea right now where him, Garrick, and Bodhi might have been? Well, they went to an outpost, right? Like they mentioned that here. And it was probably like a night where they were called to assist, right? There was probably a break in one of the outposts, right? But she finds a note. Yes, so she finds a note. So he does tell her. He does tell her that they were at the outpost, right? He says, you can't know anything else or ask me. But yes, that's where we were. And she's kind of like, oh, okay. Like that's nice that he answered the question, you know? And so yes, she finds a note and it's from her dad. And the one line you highlighted here says, it only takes one desperate generation to change history, even erase it. Yes. What are your thoughts on this note? I think that's referring to like the king's generation, like the king and the generals, right? So, so... That their generation did something? Yes, right? Because they were the ones in charge when all of this shit went down. And they're also the ones in charge right now. And as we know, there's a lot of things that are being kept in secrecy, you know? And we know at some point the book is not even found in the library anymore, right? So something is going on with like leadership. Yeah. Where they're trying, they're desperate and they're trying to erase or change history. Okay. Well, it looks like her dad had something to say about it. And so he left her this note along with this book of fables. And so it's like, obviously there's something here, right? And she's kind of like, okay, let me like look around. There's like different stories, brothers who fought to control magic in a mystical land. First writers who learned to bond with dragons. And because obviously somebody came first, right? Yeah, it was kind of, it was actually kind of fascinating and intriguing to, and it would be cool if they had like a separate book on this. This I would read. The codex thing they've got, like all the rules, not interested. But just for the side story, yeah. And they have one like Harry Potter world eventually came out with one. So maybe when she's done the series, she might start to put out some of these books because there's so many books mentioned in this book. And so there's one around, you know, writers that tried to consume too much power. Others talk of a great evil that spread across the land as man came corrupted, corrupted by dark magic and turned into creatures known as Venon, who created flocks of winged creatures called Wyvern. So now we know, because she was like, you look up Wyvern, look at Venon. And we didn't really know what it was. So do you understand what a Venon is? It's a person, right? Yes. That is like a winged person, like... No, they're just a person. Like a gargoyle? No, it's a person. It's just a person? It's a person, but it has dark magic. Oh. And they create, so it turns into creatures, right? And turn, and eventually the dark magic... So like Voldemort. Kind of, yeah, exactly. Okay, but lots of them. Not just one Voldemort. We don't know. We don't know. Do you know? Tell me. Don't know. Okay. And then they create flocks of winged creatures. Death eaters. Called Wyvern. Death eaters. And that scour the land, fall magic and thirst for more power, right? There's another one that talks about the dangers of wielding power from the ground instead of the skies, as one could easily start drawing magic from the earth and then eventually be driven mad. So these are all like basically telling children about don't get too much power. Yeah, but where does King Towery fall? Which one is he? Like, is he a Venen, actually? And like, we don't know. Is Venen the right term? Is that what it's called? Venen, yeah. Okay, yeah. So this is your idea. I don't know. You're obsessed with this king. I'm just going to say. Well, because he... Don't look at me like I'm making shit up. Like I'm going crazy here. Obviously him and the generals are in cahoots. And Dane, right? And Dane, yes. And Dane only because he can be controlled. He's just a peasant. Okay, so anyways, they're talking about his dad, right? And basically also saying that in the times right before, like right after her brother died, he became very like kind of to himself and a little bit more cryptic and things and stuff. So you can tell like her relationship, obviously he changed as you would after your oldest son dies. And then from there, like their relationship changed a bit. She just saw him more because she was in the archives. Yeah, it was the first time he had a heart attack, it seems, right? Like as well. Yeah, it was something like his heart gave out or something. Yeah, led to his death. Yeah. And so basically he's just kind of saying like, okay, well, all this stuff. If those people continue and drain the land of magic, there'd be no magic left in the land. And she's like, I'm sorry. So which mess should we tackle first? Like there's just so many things in here. And then he says, I have a better idea of how to spend our night. And so he's like teasing again, right? True, true, true. The back and forth. And last night he said the words, don't fall for me, right? And I think at this point, she's kind of like, this is not what it's going to be like, right? And he says like, I have absolutely no intention for falling for you. Yeah, and we know that he's trying like really hard to put up a wall, but like deep inside, we can all read right through him. We know he's obviously into it, but he's trying really hard to keep. Yeah, and I love like Violet's response because she's very much like you do you, but you can't tell me who I get to fall for or not. Like, and she's very, it's almost like she can see through him, right? And she's like, I know you want me. I know that that scares you and all, but like, I know you want me, so you don't get to dictate how I feel, which I love that because it's so true. Like, he's the one right now that feels more scared. I'm glad she didn't just like take it and was like, okay, fine, like get away. Or was all like, you know, oh, I'm hurt. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, she's just like, you don't play that game with me. Like I saw it in your eyes yesterday. I'm trying to play hard to get. And then I think one of the things too that's important here is just knowing that like she can stand up to him in a way that not a lot of other people can because a lot of people are scared of Zayden. Yeah, rightfully so. They've got something special, right? It's a different bond. Yeah. So she's kind of like, you know, who knows if I've already kind of fallen for him. But she's like, he's already kind of halfway there too, whether he realizes it or not. Okay, so basically we do mention King Tari. So he comes up in conversation. Yeah, because they're about to celebrate reunification day. Reunification day. And that's basically what happened after the rebellion, right? So it's like they reunified and all the things and that's kind of basically when people got executed as well. And so she's kind of, now it's been a month. So we realized she still can't aim. So how are you feeling about her signet? Like it's lightning. You were already kind of thinking before, like, okay, it might be something. It could be something cooler, but she can't aim. She keeps working on it. Like everything Violet does at first, like she's got like something really cool. And then she's like, oh, I can't figure this out. Oh, I can't stay on my dragon. Oh, I can't like fight properly. Oh, like with everything she does, eventually she'll get really good at it. You know, it's just showing us one more struggle that she has to deal with. And I think right now the fact that she can't aim makes you a little unpredictable and makes you wonder if she's going to do something like not intentionally. Like, is she going to cause some damage that aside from just like, you know, setting some trees on fire. Yeah. That could actually have some real life consequences. We'll see what happens. So they're basically talking about how there's going to be a celebration and all this stuff. And I love that in this one, you know, we see a lot of like them communicate now in their heads. And now they're taking the teasing to their back and forth like mind conversation. So basically they're all talking about different things like in real life, but then they're having a whole different conversation in their minds, which ends up being something that happens like enough that you're like, that's a fun play. Yes, it is. You know, they could be having a conversation with a whole group, but they're over here like having a whole different. This is the time Zayden almost choked on something. Yes, I think so. Because I feel like they were in the cafeteria and something happened between them. And she made a comment. Oh yeah. So basically there, I think everyone's like eating or something and they're talking about this, you know, celebration. And he's kind of like, you know, don't look at me like that. Like stop looking. And then she's like, you're the one that's making it hard not to look. And basically she's like you're, and you also have this ridiculous rule about not falling for each other. He's like, you're still looking. And he's like, I'm over here keeping my hands and memories to myself because you asked me to and you're fucking me with your eyes. That's not playing fair. And so then she like drops her fork and stuff. And she's like, okay, I can play at this game too. And then she says, this is what you highlighted. If you just man up and admit that there's something between us, I would strip down to my skin so you could see every single inch of me. And then once I had you begging, I would drop down to my knees, undo those flight leathers you're wearing and wrap my lips around. And then Zayden chokes. Yes, exactly. Which is, yeah. And this, you're going to be the death of me is also another quote because it's just, you know, there's no point in that. Yeah, so now they're 10 days away from graduation. So that's, we're getting close. Goodbye. But I mean, but even though he's graduating, it honestly doesn't feel like they can't be apart from each other for that long. So, you know, like it doesn't matter that they're graduating. Okay, fine. They'll go what, two days without each other and before they have to go see each other again. Yeah, but it's still going to change the dynamic. They're not going to be together all the time. Some shit goes down in this book and then guess what? Everybody has to go to war. I don't know. So, I mean, we're not that far from the end and you're about to read four chapters pretty soon. So, you know, this is now the day of the, of this reunification, which also marks six years since Brennan was killed. He'd be a captain by now, or maybe even a major. So, you know, it's kind of that. Yeah, it's the anniversary of a lot of sad things, you know. So, it also, not only is it the anniversary of Brennan's death, it's also, like you mentioned before, the anniversary of when people were executed, right? For planning a rebellion. Exactly. And so, you know, it's kind of like a sad moment for her. Like she's like, maybe he'd be married. Maybe I'd be an aunt. Maybe my dad's heart wouldn't have given out. It's like so many things that happened. Just kind of domino effect, right? From that moment. So, that's one of those things that I think is big to mention because in this moment, like he's, like Ryerson's feeling his feelings over his dad, and she's feeling her feelings over her brother, right? Yeah, but they're not really sharing that with each other at this point. No. You know. So, they're in battle brief, you know. They're talking and she says, like, take me to bed. I mentally blurt out and then sit down my seat. Like, he's like, it might be awkward in front of all these people. So, they're just going back and forth. And he's like, I haven't changed my mind. Like, there's absolutely no future for us. And yeah, that's basically their little back and forth that they have. And then obviously, I think one of the things here to know is he's also knowing he's going to leave. So, I don't think he wants to get into anything too serious because he knows he's going to be away. Yeah. So, it's a long distance thing. I don't blame him. I don't do long distance. I don't do long distance. He says, like he's had a lot of opportunity. And he's a very long dating life. I had one a long time ago. And I was like, I don't do long distance. Yeah. I mean, it'd be hard, right? Especially for them in this role of where people could die like the next day. Especially when he's out in the front lines. So, let's see. I'm not having this discussion with you right now. Pay attention. Basically, they're just going back and forth, right? So, she's kind of like, is there someone else? I haven't even thought about that. But like, do you actually like someone else? And they keep thinking back and forth. And she's like, oh my god, right. It's Imogen. Like, Imogen is your person.
